In the framework of the project “Raul Prebisch and XXIst Century development challenges”, ECLAC encourages the discussion between the structuralist tradition and different heterodox approaches to analyse of the current development challenges of Latin America and the Caribbean.

This seminar will be held on the occasion of the 12th edition of the Raúl Prebisch Memorial Lecture, given by Professor Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo, of the Institute of Economics of the State University of Campinas in Brasil. The lecture will address “the changes in the center-periphery relationship and its impact on development in Latin America and the Caribbean”.

The Seminar on Neo-Structuralism and Heterodox Economics will feature the participation of leading experts such as Robert Boyer, José Antonio Ocampo, Jan Kregel, Ricardo Ffrench-Davis, João Carlos Ferraz, Jorge Katz, Fernando Porta, Fernando Filgueira, among others. Different sessions will tackle relevant development issues such as the impact of the crisis and the new realities of the global economy on the region, macroeconomics for development, productivity and structural change and the role of the State. Additionally, young researchers of the region will present working papers selected on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Latin American and the Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES).
